Two people have been saved from a water canal in Airport road in Bloemfontein this evening.

ER24 Paramedics arrived at the scene where the police had found the car submerged by water.

It is believed that the vehicle the two patients were travelling in slipped on the wet road and landed in a water canal next to the new Bram Fischer Hospital in Bloemfontein just after 18h00.

A construction crane had to be used to lift the car out of the water and CPR was performed on a 22 year old male. ER24 transported the patient to Mediclinic Bloemfontein. The patient was unresponsive at first and was stabilised before he was transported to hospital.

One other patient was transported to a nearby hospital by other emergency services on scene.

Local authorities were on scene to investigate further.
