Twelve people were injured this morning, including eleven children, when a taxi and truck collided at the Khan and Old Greytown Road intersection in Northdale, KwaZulu Natal.

At approximately 08h24, paramedics arrived on the scene and found the taxi, filled with children, parked in the middle of the intersection. A large truck had come to a stop on the side of the road a short distance away.

Paramedics quickly extricated the occupants from the taxi and discovered that eleven children, aged between 4 and 7, and one adult had been injured. Assessment of the patients showed that the injuries sustained were only minor.

Paramedics treated the patients and thereafter transported them to Northdale Provincial hospital for further care.

It is believed that the children had been on their way to school when the collision occurred.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene to investigate further.
