A 32-year-old man was left critically injured this morning when a light motor vehicle and bus collided on Paul Kruger Street in Pretoria.

ER24 paramedics, along with the fire services, arrived on the scene at approximately 09h05, finding the wrecked light motor vehicle in the middle of the road. The bus had come to a stop just a short distance away.

Upon closer inspection, paramedics found a man lying trapped inside the light motor vehicle. Quick assessments showed that the man had sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition.

Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the man from the vehicle. Once freed, paramedics treated the man and provided him with several advanced life support interventions. The man was thereafter transported to Steve Biko Hospital for urgent treatment.

The driver of the bus was treated and transported to hospital by another service.

Local authorities were on the scene to investigate the cause of the collision.
