14 injured as truck hits taxi
Shortly after 10 am this morning, traffic was brought to a standstill on the R511 just before the mushroom farm between Diepsloot and Dainfern after a taxi and large tipper truck collided.
The already heavy traffic, possibly due to the robot outage in the Fourways area, may have been the cause of the initial accident. It seems that when the truck was travelling down the hill in the direction of Dainfern it slammed into the back of the transporter, pushing it off the road and up a small embankment.
The 14 people in the taxi were treated for various injuries at the scene. They had all suffered minor to moderate injuries while one man was trapped in the crushed back of the taxi. He had been sitting on the side of the impact and the way that the chair had bent was the reason his legs were trapped. The Jaws of Life were needed to remove the wreck from around him. Fortunately he was stable and orientated throughout, after which he was taken along with the other 13 patients to Thembisa Hospital.
The truck driver was not injured in the accident.
