[ATTRIDGEVILLE] – Multiple-vehicle collision leaves one dead, five injured.
One man was killed and five others injured this morning following a collision between three trucks and a light motor vehicle on the R55 in Attridgeville.
ER24 personnel, along with the Provincial and other services, arrived on the scene at 08h40 to find several vehicles in the road.
On closer inspection, medics found one man lying in the back of the truck while two men were found lying next to the one truck. Three other men were found lying trapped inside the truck.
Medics assessed the man lying in the back of the truck and found that he had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead.
Further assessments showed that the two men lying next to the truck, and one man lying trapped inside the truck, were in a critical condition. The two other men had sustained moderate injuries.
Rescue Services had to use specialised equipment to free the entrapped men from the truck, an operation lasting 30 minutes.
Once freed, paramedics treated the men and provided the critically injured with several advanced life support interventions. After treatment, one critically injured man was airlifted to hospital by a private medical helicopter. The remaining patients were transported by ambulances to nearby hospitals.
The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
