Bakkie collides with truck killing four, injuring four
Four men were killed and four others injured late last night after a bakkie collided with a truck on the R30 near Bothaville in the Free State. ER24 paramedics, along with Provincial services, arrived on scene and found the two wrecked vehicles off in the veld. Both vehicles had sustained a large amount of damage in the collision. On assessment, paramedics found four lifeless males lying a few metres away from then overturned bakkie. Unfortunately all four patients had already succumbed to their multiple fatal injuries when they were flung from the vehicle. Four other patients were found on scene, with injuries ranging from critical to moderate. One critically injured patients lay trapped beneath the bakkie. Rescue services had to use specialised rescue equipment to free the patient from beneath the vehicle before he was treated by advanced life support paramedics. Once all the patients were treated, they were transported by ambulance to Bothaville Hospital for urgent medical treatment. The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
