[EDENDALE] – Two taxis collide leaving one dead, 17 injured.
One woman was killed and 17 others injured this morning following a collision between two taxis on the Edendale Road, near Henley Dam, outside of Pietermaritzburg.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene at 08h10. Upon closer inspection, paramedics found one taxi at the bottom of an embankment while a second taxi was found further down the road on its side. Several passengers that had been ejected from the taxis when they collided.
Paramedics began to assess the patients and found that one woman, believed to be in her 30s, had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the woman and she was declared dead.
17 other patients were attended to by paramedics. Assessments showed that the injuries sustained ranged from minor to moderate.
The patients were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to Edendale and Northdale Provincial Hospitals for further care.
The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
