Eleven learners stabbed near PMB
Approximately 11 male high school learners sustained serious to minor injuries during a fight in Cedara, near Pietermaritzburg yesterday afternoon. ER24 paramedics arrived outside the school and found four patients, aged between 16 and 21, sitting inside and outside the bus where the fight had apparently occurred. When the four patients were assessed, it was discovered that two of them, aged 16 and 17, were stabbed in the chest. One was left partially stable and required fluid replacement therapy on scene. The second chest wound patient was also given the necessary treatment on scene after which both patients were transported to Edendale Provincial Hospital for urgent medical care. The third patient sustained severe facial injuries whereas the fourth was stabbed in his arm. These learners were transported to Grays Provincial Hospital for the necessary medical care. Paramedics were told that the incident occurred when approximately 12 males arrived at the school where some jumped onto the bus and started stabbing the learners on the bus. Before paramedics arrived on scene most of the injured patients had run away to get help from the nearby police station and clinic. Local police personnel were on scene to conduct the necessary investigations.
