[BELHAR] – Delivery truck overturns fatally injuring pedestrian

A delivery truck being stoned by people in Belhar (witnessed by our paramedic), overturned on the Stellenbosch Arterial Road, knocking down and critically injuring a pedestrian this afternoon. The woman later died from her injuries in hospital.

ER24 paramedics were on the scene at 13:30, but had to wait for the South African Police Services to secure the area before they could respond. The patient, believed to be in her 30s, was then found on the sidewalk, about 50 meters from the truck. She had suffered multiple, critical injuries and was unresponsive. CPR and Advanced Life Support interventions were administered and the patient was successfully resuscitated on the scene. She was then transported to Tygerberg Hospital where she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries in the emergency room.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries and was also transported to hospital for further care. The truck was transporting empty pallets. The Cape Town Fire Department was also on scene.
