[BLOEMFONTEIN] – Three injured in construction accident.

Three men were left injured this morning, one of them seriously, following a construction accident on the R702 Dewetsdorp Road, approximately 10km outside of Bloemfontein.
ER24 paramedics, along with Bloemfontein Fire Services, arrived on the scene at 11h25 to find a large crane parked next to a deep trench on the side of the road. One man was found lying at the bottom of the trench while two men were walking near the crane.
Medics assessed the men and found that the man in the trench was in a serious condition while the two other men sustained moderate injuries.
The men were treated for the injuries and the seriously injured provided with pain-relief medication. After treated, the seriously injured man was lifted out the trench with a crane before the patients were transported to a nearby hospital for further care.
It is understood that the crane had been lifting a large pipe when it came loose, injuring the men.
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
