[DURBAN CENTRAL] – Bakkie and truck collide leaving three dead, two injured.

Three men were killed and two others were left injured this afternoon when a bakkie and truck collided at the Battery Beach and Isaiah Ntshangase Road intersection in Durban Central.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene at 13h38 to find the bakkie in the middle of the intersection while the truck had come to a stop in a nearby parking lot a short distance away.

On closer inspection, medics found five people inside the light motor vehicle.

Rescue medics had to use specialised equipment to free the patients from the vehicle. Once freed, medics assessed the patients and found that the three men in the back of the vehicle had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead.

The two other patients were assessed and found to have sustained moderate injuries. The patients were treated and were thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for further care.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
