[EVANDER] 12-year-old boy drowns at excavation site

A 12-year-old boy has drowned while swimming with friends this afternoon at an excavation site that had filled with water from the recent rains. The site is near Adullam Mission, outside Evander, which is near Secunda in Mpumalanga. The boy’s friends had run to get help.

ER24 paramedics along with Delta 1 divers and Search & Rescue arrived at 17:55 after receiving a call from the South African Police Services. The distressed boy’s parents were also on scene. SAPS diver Sgt Nagel and Andries Lee from Delta 1 managed to recover the body and our ER24 medic unfortunately declared the boy dead on the scene.
