[GILLVIEW] – Truck crashes into bridge, killing one, injuring another.

Yesterday afternoon, a man was killed and another injured when a truck drove up an embankment and into the Kliprivier bridge on the N12 in Gillview, Alberton.
ER24 and numerous other services arrived on the scene shortly after 15h00 to find a large truck on an embankment against the roadside barriers. One man was found outside the vehicle, while another was trapped inside the truck cab.
Medics assessed the man and found that the man outside the truck had sustained minor injuries while the entrapped man was in critical condition.
Rescue personnel has to use specialised equipment to free the man from the cab, an operation lasting some time. Once freed, medics treated the men and provided the critical man with advanced life support.
Once treated, the critically injured man was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a hospital while the other man was transported by ambulance.
Unfortunately, after some time in the hospital, the critically injured man succumbed to his injuries.
The exact details surrounding this incident are unknown, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
