[HENNOPSRIVIER] Child airlifted after car rolls down a ravine

A 12-year-old girl has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after the family car rolled down a ravine from the R511 in the Hennopsrivier area this afternoon. Her 19-year-old brother and 51-year-old mother suffered minor injuries in the incident.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 14:16 along with Metro and SAPS to find that a light motor vehicle had rolled about a kilometre down into a ravine. The family had been shouting for help from the bottom. The 19-year-old son managed to walk most of the way back to the road, but the young daughter needed to be immobilised on a scoop before being lifted out with the help of the policemen on the scene. The daughter was stable but had suffered serious injuries so the call was made to fly her to hospital with another private services’ medical helicopter and Advanced Life Support medic.

The mother and son were found to have suffered minor injuries and were treated and transported to Mediclinic Midstream for further care.
