[HEROLDS BAY] – Man killed after vehicle plunges down cliff.

A man, believed to be in his 40s, was killed when his light motor vehicle plunged down a cliff on Voelklip Road in Herolds Bay near George.

ER24 paramedics, SAPS, Western Cape Metro Rescue, George and Eden Fire Services arrived on the scene shortly after 09h00 after several hikers had witnessed the vehicle plunged down the cliff.

On arrival, medics found the vehicle some distance down the cliff lying in the waves.

Rescue Technicians immediately rigged a rope rescue system and made their way to the patient. At the bottom of the cliff, rescue personnel found that the man had been ejected from the vehicle and had sustained several injuries.

The Red Cross AMS helicopter was called to the scene to airlift the body to the roadside.

Once the man had been retrieved, medics found that the man had already succumbed to his numerous injuries. Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
