[MONDEOR] Mountain rescue – hiker seriously injured

A woman in her mid to late 20s has been rescued after she suffered serious injuries in a fall while out hiking with a friend in the mountains of the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve this morning.

It is believed that she slipped on a rock and fell at around 9 am, suffering fractures to the arm and lower leg. ER24’s Joburg South crews managed to reach the patient by 11:45 after an hour and a half hike. Rescue 1 arrived shortly after, managing to drive closer to the scene via a second gate opened up by the Parks Board. The patient was treated for dehydration and with Advanced Life Support interventions for pain while being immobilised in a Stokes basket for the trip down.

ORRU Mountain Rescue also arrived to help with the extraction, the whole team managing to get the patient down from the trail to the waiting ambulance by 14:25. The patient was then transported to a private hospital in the area for further care.
