[MOOKGOPONG] Six killed in a collision on N1

Six people were killed following a collision between a taxi and a light motor vehicle on the N1 near Mookgopong in Limpopo this afternoon.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene shortly before 14h00, they found a light motor vehicle that was completely burned out. A taxi was found approximately 40 meters further lying on its side on the roadway. Five people were found to have sustained fatal injuries and were declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

A patient was found to have sustained critical injuries but despite the best efforts of paramedics, the patient succumbed to their extensive injuries on the scene. Another patient who was found to be in a critical condition was flown to hospital by medical helicopter for further medical care.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident were not known to our paramedics, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
