[OLIVEDALE] – Elderly pedestrian struck by car, left critically injured.

An elderly woman was left critically injured this afternoon when she was struck by a light motor vehicle whilst walking her grandchild on Market Street in Olivedale.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find other services already in attendance. On closer inspection, medics found an elderly woman lying on the side of the road. The vehicle that had struck the woman was found parked a short distance away.

Medics assessed the woman and found that she had sustained a serious head injury, leaving her in a critical condition.

Medics treated the woman and provided her with several advanced life support interventions before she was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a hospital in Johannesburg.

No other injuries were found on the scene.

Local authorities were in attendance for further investigations.
