[OSIZWENI] Child declared dead after fatal drowning

A 5-year-old boy was declared dead following a fatal drowning in the Buffelsrivier near Osizweni, which lies East of Newcastle in KZN, this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics and the SAPS Search & Rescue team were called to the scene yesterday afternoon, but the search was called off due to light and temperature challenges. The search continued this morning and this afternoon at approximately 13h30, the body was found and retrieved from the river by the SAPS Search and Rescue divers. Once the body was retrieved from the water, paramedics declared the boy dead.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident is not known to our paramedics.
