[PIETERMARITZBURG] – Taxi crashes into wall leaving 11 injured.

Eleven people were left injured this afternoon when the taxi they were travelling in crashed into a boundary wall on Victoria Road in Pietermaritzburg CBD.

ER24 paramedics, along with several other services, arrived on the scene shortly after 16h00 to find that taxi smashed against a large wall. Several passengers had already climbed out of the vehicle and were now found seated along the pavement. The driver of the taxi, a 24-year-old man, was found lying trapped inside the vehicle.

Pietermaritzburg Fire services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the driver whilst paramedics began assessing the patients. Ten patients were found with minor to moderate injuries while the taxi driver was found with serious injuries.

The patients were treated, and the taxi driver provided with pain-relief medication before they were transported to nearby hospitals for further care.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
