[POLOKWANE] Seven dead, two critical in a head-on collision
Seven people have died and two are in a critical condition following a head-on collision between two light motor vehicles in the early hours of this morning on the Matlala Road outside Polokwane.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 5:50 am along with Provincial Rescue and EMS services and three other private Emergency Medical Services. Two BMW vehicles were found on the scene each with three people who had already succumbed to their various fatal injuries – they were all declared dead on arrival. Many were still entrapped and were extricated by Provincial Rescue. A woman, believed to be in her early 30s, was treated and transported by another private service in a critical condition to Seshego District Hospital where she too unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.
ER24 treated the two other critically injured patients, a male in his late 20s from the one vehicle and female, also believed to be in her early 30s, from the other with Advanced Life Support interventions. Both were transported through to Polokwane Hospital for further care by ER24 and one other private service on scene.
The South African Police Services as well as the Traffic Department were also on scene for further investigations.
