[POORTJIE] Woman killed, ten injured in R28 collision

A 23-year-old woman was killed and 10 others sustained various injuries following a collision on the R28 in Poortjie west of Johannesburg this afternoon.

Shortly after 12pm, paramedics from ER24 and the local fire department as well as ER24’s Site Based Medical Rescue Services arrived on the scene where they found a bakkie and a light motor vehicle with severe damage. One person was found trapped inside of the bakkie while all of the other occupants were ejected from the vehicle.

Two people were found inside of the light motor vehicle. One of them sustained serious injuries.

A 23-year-old woman, believed to have been ejected from the bakkie, was found with fatal injuries. Sadly, there was nothing that paramedics could do for her and she was declared dead on the scene.

The remainder of the patients were transported to local hospitals in the area. The exact circumstances surrounding the collision is not yet known. Local authorities attended the scene.
