[RADIOKOP] – Two-vehicle collision leaves one dead, five injured.
One man was killed and five others let injured last night following a collision between two light motor vehicles on Hendrik Potgieter Road in Radiokop, west of Johannesburg.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene at 23h45 to find the two wrecked vehicles in the middle of the road. Two people were found lying trapped inside the one vehicle while four people were found lying outside the two vehicles.
Medics assessed the patients and found a man, believed to be in his 30s, had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead.
Two other patients, a man and a woman, were found lying trapped inside the one vehicle. Assessments showed that both patients had sustained numerous injuries and were in a critical condition. Rescue services had to use specialised rescue equipment to free the two trapped patients from the vehicle.
Once freed, medics treated the patients and provided them with advanced life support interventions before they were transported to nearby provincial hospitals for further care.
Three other patients were tended to on the scene, assessments showed that they had sustained moderate injuries. The patients were treated and thereafter transported to nearby hospitals for further care.
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
