[RICHMOND] – Head-on collision leaves one dead, another injured.

One man was killed and another injured this afternoon following a head-on collision between a bakkie and truck on the R56 in Richmond, KwaZulu Natal.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 12h45 to find the truck in the middle of the road while the bakkie was found on the side of the road. On closer inspection, medics found a man, believed to be in his 40s, was found lying trapped inside the bakkie in a critical condition.

ER24 Rescue Medics and Richmond Fire Services had to use specialised rescue tools to free the man from the vehicle. Once freed, medics treated the man and provided him with advanced life support interventions before he was transported to a nearby hospital for further care.

Unfortunately, on arrival at hospital, the man succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the truck was assessed and found to have sustained minor injuries. The man was treated and transported to hospital for further care.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
