[RUSTENBURG] – Man left critical after freak accident.

A man was left critically injured this afternoon following a freak accident at his residence in Rustenburg.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after 12h45 to find the local fire services and another private service already in attendance.

On further inspection, medics found a man, believed to be in his 30s, up in a large tree. A large branch that the man had been cutting was now crushing his leg.

ER24 Rescue Medics and the Fire Services had to use specialised equipment to remove the branch from the mans leg. Once freed, the man was lowered to the ground by a rope rescue system.

The man was treated for his injuries and provided with advanced life support interventions before he was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a hospital in Johannesburg for urgent care.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
