[SMARTIESVILLE] – Man struck-and-killed by train.

A 69-year-old man was killed late last night after he was struck by a train near Smartiesville in Ladysmith.
ER24 paramedics, along with KwaZulu Natal EMS, arrived on scene at 21h51 to find the man lying next to the tracks. Assessments showed that the man had sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition.
The man was treated and provided with advanced life support interventions before he was transported to Ladysmith Provincial Hospital for urgent care.
On route to the hospital, the patient’s vital signs rapidly diminished. CPR and further advanced life support interventions were initiated to revive the patient.
Unfortunately, the patient succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
