Twelve killed, 23 others injured in various collisions

Twelve people were killed and 23 others were injured in various collisions across the country.

Gauteng

On Friday afternoon a thirteen-year-old child sustained serious injuries when he was knocked down by a bakkie along Power Street in Germiston. Paramedics that arrived on the scene found the child still lying on the road. He was treated for his injuries and transported to Tambo Memorial Hospital for further care. The driver of the bakkie was not injured.

On Saturday morning, paramedics from ER24 attended to another pedestrian collision. A patient with serious injuries was found in the road after being knocked down near the intersection of Blackreef and Dekama in Wadeville. Following on-scene care, the patient was later transported to Tambo Memorial Hospital.

A man sustained moderate injuries when his light delivery vehicle overturned in Glenharvie early Saturday morning.

A taxi that collided with a tree on Farmer’s Road towards Khutsong in Carletonville on Saturday afternoon left three people killed, one with serious injuries and eight others with moderate injuries. The local fire department had to free one of the trapped occupants from the taxi.

A collision on Begonia Street in Blybank, Carletonville left two people with moderate injuries.

Two people were killed in a four-vehicle collision on the R54 near Vaal Marina on Sunday afternoon. Paramedics that arrived on the scene found six people that were injured, two of them in a serious condition. Sadly, there was nothing that could be done for two of the occupants that died on the scene.

Another two people were killed in a collision along the R559 outside of Carletonville on Sunday afternoon. Paramedics that arrived on the scene found a car and a truck that collided with each other. Two people were declared dead on the scene. One of the seriously injured patients were airlifted from the scene to hospital while another seriously injured patient was rushed to hospital by ambulance.

Newcastle (KwaZulu-Natal)

A nineteen-year-old drowned in Chelmsford dam in Newcastle. Paramedics from ER24 as well as the South African Police Services’ Diving and Search and Rescue Unit assisted with the search. Family members reported that he was last seen walking to the dam. Sadly, he was later found submerged under water. There was nothing that paramedics could do for him and he was declared on the scene. The details surrounding the incident is not yet clear.

Cape Town – Western Cape

A collision on Black River Parkway between the N2 and Berkley Road left one person with fatal injuries. Paramedics from ER24 came across the collision shortly after 9pm. One person was found with fatal injuries and another with moderate injuries. The injured occupant was transported to a nearby hospital by Metro Ambulance.

Mpumalanga

Shortly after 6pm, paramedics from ER24 and local emergency services arrived on the scene of a head-on collision on Lothair road approximately 30km outside of Ermelo.

Upon assessment, paramedics found four men with fatal injuries. One person was found with minor injuries and transported the Mediclinic Ermelo for further medical care.
