[VAAL RIVER] One dead, four missing after boat capsizes

Five men in their 30s are believed to have drowned after their boat capsized on the Vaal River near Spider Valley Road this afternoon. Two people, one male and one female, also believed to be in their 30s, survived with minor injuries.

ER24 paramedics were on the scene at 17:50 along with the South African Police Services and Metro EMS. One body has been recovered and four are still missing. Metro EMS declared the man dead on arrival. The two survivors declined transportation to the hospital. The man explained that the boat was taking on water when it capsized.

SAPS were on scene for investigation and waiting on rescue divers to begin the recovery.
