[WALKERVILLE] Three critical among the injured in a multi-vehicle collision

An eight-year-old girl is one of three passengers to have suffered critical injuries in a collision between a truck, a taxi and a light motor vehicle at the intersection of the R82 and R557 in Walkerville, South of Joburg, this afternoon. Approximately twelve people are thought to have been injured in the incident with multiple services on scene.

ER24 paramedics arrived on scene at 13:30 along with the Fire Department, provincial and other private Emergency Medical Services. Most of the passengers from the taxi had been ejected or had self-extricated. An adult woman was found entrapped and in a critical condition. She was treated with Advanced Life Support interventions before the Fire Department extracted her from the vehicle and she was transported through to Sebokeng Hospital for further care.

The 8-year-old girl and her father were also found in a critical condition and were also treated with Advanced Life Support interventions. Her 13-year-old brother was found with moderate injuries and all three were transported through to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital for further treatment. The other EMS services on the scene treated and transported a number of other passengers from the taxi as well as from the light motor vehicle involved. The driver of the truck escaped injury.

The JMPD were also on-scene for further investigations.
