A man, believed to be in his 50s, was killed and two other men injured this morning when a taxi crashed into the side of a light motor vehicle at the Hendrik Potgieter and Ondekkers Road intersection in Maraisburg, west of Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics, along with the Provincial services, arrived on the scene shortly after 05h00. A taxi was found parked in the middle of the road while the light motor vehicle had come to a stop a short distance away.

Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered the lifeless body of a man lying in the passenger seat of the light motor vehicle. Paramedics quickly assessed the man and found that he had already succumbed to his multiple injuries. Unfortunately, nothing more could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene.

The driver of the light motor vehicle and taxi were assessed and found to have sustained only minor injuries. They were treated by paramedics and thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Jaws-of-life equipment had to be used to later free the deceased body from the light motor vehicle.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
