Taxi collision leaves 16 injured, including three children
16 people, including three children, were injured this afternoon when a taxi collided with a traffic light on Main Road in Merrivale in Pietermaritzburg. ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene and found the taxi crushed up against a traffic light. Small pieces of the car were spread across the road while traffic began to back up. On assessment, paramedics found that 16 people had been inside the vehicle when the collision occurred. An elderly woman, found sitting in the front of the taxi, was found sitting in a serious condition with injuries to both her legs. 15 other patients had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Paramedics began their treatment of the patients and provided the critically injured patient with advanced life support. Once all the patients were treated, they were transported by ambulance to various hospitals for further treatment. The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
