Truck crash into four vehicles and pedestrian
Ten people were injured, one critically, when a truck lost control and crashed into four vehicles and a pedestrian on the M1 (Milkyway) near the Mariannhill intersection this afternoon. Paramedics from ER24 and other services that arrived on the scene found vehicles scattered across the road. Upon their assessment they found a pedestrian lying several meters away from the wrecked vehicles. She [the pedestrian] was in a critical condition and suffered a traumatic amputation of her left leg during the collision. Seven people were found in the vehicles with various injuries ranging from lacerations to possible neck and back injuries. Paramedics treated three children, aged between two and fourteen years old, in one of the vehicles for moderate injuries. The driver of the truck had to be freed by the jaws-of-life. The local fire and rescue services had to perform this task before paramedics could treat him for his injuries. His passenger was able to climb out the vehicle before paramedics arrived on the scene. The passenger of the truck explained to paramedics that they apparently experienced a mechanical failure prior to the collision. However the exact cause of the collision remains a subject of police investigation.
