[WESTVILLE] – Trucks and taxi collide leaving four killed, several injured.
Four people have been killed and approximately eight others injured this afternoon after a collision involving a taxi and two trucks on the N3 Durban-bound near the Pavallion in Westville, KwaZulu-Natal.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene and found all three vehicles in the left-hand lane of the highway.
Upon closer inspection, paramedics found several people lying trapped inside the taxi, which was wedged between the two trucks.
Rescue services had to use specialised rescue equipment to free the trapped patients from the taxi.
While extricating the trapped, paramedics found that four people, a man and three women, had sustained fatal injuries injuries. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the patients and they were declared dead on the scene.
Upon inspection, paramedics found approximately eight people with injuries ranging from minor to critical.
Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured patients with advanced life support interventions.
Once treated, the patients were transported to various hospitals in the area for urgent treatment.
It is believed that the taxi apparently rear-ended a truck that had broken down in the left lane. A second truck the crashed into the rear of the taxi.
Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
